This is a very rare DMPL dollar (Deep Mirror Prooflike) graded MS64+ DMPL with an even rarer date. 1881-O dollars are exceedingly rare just a half grade higher than this and, in MS65 this coin would be worth $10,000. (I'm not suggesting the coin should be a 65)
The NGC Price Guide (ngccoin.com) lists this coins value at $1650. They don't show up in the Heritage auctions in this grade very often. According to NGC's website they've only grade 5 dollars in MS65 DMPL and nothing higher. The only 64+ I could find on Ebay was listed over $3000. My price: $1450.
Here's a really nice 1879-O dollar from the first year of the New Orleans dollars encapsulated into a MS64+ holder by ICG. This is a better date coin and anything with a higher grade is at least three times as expensive.
This date, according to NGC (ngccoin.com) retails for $800 and it's hard to find in this grade. You can get this date in MS64 on Ebay's website for around $750.which is what I'm asking for this one. I'm selling it because I have this date in a MS65 holder which will likely get passed down to my son. If you're interested my price: $750.
Here is another rare prooflike Morgan dollar I've collected over the years which I'm offering for sale. ICG has graded this coin MS63+ Prooflike and you can see from the pictures the coin has great cartwheel luster.
NGC lists this coin on their Price Guide at $1275.00. I had another coin several years back in this grade and sold it on Ebay and almost immediately regretting doing so. That coin was in an ANACS holder. This coin is very hard to find in this grade and there are very few graded higher. As I've said on the intro to this site I have always bought the coin and not the holder. Heritage hasn't had a coin of this date and grade since 2018 and I could only find two in MS63 on Ebay. My price: $1250. You can check out the NGC Price Guide HERE.
Another rare and beautiful prooflike Morgan dollar this one from the New Orleans mint with a date of 1882 and a grade via ICG of MS65 Prooflike. Very hard to find Morgan dollar.
NGC's Price Guide (ngccoin.com) lists the value of this dollar at $1800 and one hasn't been sold at Heritage for over five years. I couldn't find a single one for sale on Ebay. I've always thought this coin to be DMPL and have been tempted on occasion to resubmit it - but as I've said many times here I don't trust the grading services and I have no personal need for this coin to be in a different holder. If you choose to purchase it and have been collecting for any period of time, my guess is you'll be tempted when you check out these mirrors - I'm no expert, but they appear to be close to 10 inches based on the way (unofficial) I look at them. Regardless, My Price: $1250. At one time I had two of these and sold the other one on Ebay several years ago which, at the time, I regretted. Had I kept the other dollar I might have actually resubmitted this one. Thanks for looking and putting up with my wordiness.
Here's a dollar I really like, I'm offering it for sale because I have this date in a MS66 holder. This coin is not far behind in my view. The strike and the luster are both in the plus category in my view.
This 88-O Morgan is graded as a gem+ - just a bit below what I call a "superb gem" (MS66 or higher). However, it's still in the hard to find category and I would call it a better date dollar. NGC lists its value in this grade at $600 and I only found one in this grade on Ebay. However, this date and grade in MS65 is readily available on Ebay and I'm pricing his dollar accordingly. My Price $450. Access NGC's website HERE.
Beautiful dollar, rare to find this nice.
NGC puts a value of $1250 on this coin with this date and grade. It's been graded and encapsulated into a MS65 holder by ICG..My price: $1000 Check out comparables HERE.
Superb 1885-O Morgan graded and encapsulated into a MS67 holder by ICG. Great "eye appeal" along with the famous Morgan cartweel luster.
NGC puts a value of $1200 on this coin with this date and grade. ICG encapsulated it into a MS67 holder, and with a closer look the colorful rim toning and exquisite details allows this coin to compare favorably with just about any coin in the grade from any grading service.. My price: $1150 Check out comparables HERE.
A light rose toning covers the obverse of this dollar which sits in a superb gem grade from ICG. Beautiful dollar!
NGC puts a value of $3000 on this coin with this date and grade. ICG encapsulated it into a MS66+ holder, and, and, in addition, it's got some nice color. I hope the photos allows you to compare it with other similar coins available. My price: $1000. Check out comparables HERE.
Here's a very rare 1897-O Morgan which is hard to find in any "MS" grade, let alone in MS62. Check out the photos carefully and I think you'll agree with me this is a solid 62,.
NGC puts a value of $2000 on this coin with less than 300 graded higher and they get very expensive in the higher grades. (Not that this coin is "cheap" but comparatively it is) ICG encapsulated it into a MS62 holder, and with a closer look that's a solid grade. My price: $1750. Check out comparables HERE.
